I left My Heart at Merbabu Mountain

Mount Merbabu

Mount Merabu has an altitude of 3,142 masl with its highest peak is Kenteng Songo Peak. To climb the summit of Merbabu there are three paths that can be traversed namely via Wakes, via Selo and via New Selo. Climbing the Merbabu Montain via selo is the most preferred route for climbers. To go to Selo can be reached from Magelang or from Boyolali. In my first article, I will discuss about the hiking trail via Selo based on my experience.

I went to Merbabu on Thursday, July 26, 2018. To arrive at the base camp of Selo, It takes about 1 hour from Semarang.

At the registration counter, we pay an entry fee of Rp.8,000 for one person. Next we will be asked to write our name and address. We will be given a ticket and a map.

Climbing Mount Merabu starts with a shallow track. It takes about 1 hour to travel from the departure post to post 1. while the journey from post 1 to post 2 takes 60 minutes. On the way from post 2 to post 1 there will be many shadow posts that can be used to rest.

The journey to post 3 will be more difficult than before. It takes about 30 minutes to go to post 3. In post 3 or known as Batu Tulis, is the camp area. Therefore climbers often set up tents in post 3 to take a rest before they continuous their journey.

Pos 3

Then travel from post 3 to savanna I. It takes about 1 hour. This will be more difficult than before. But the scenery enjoyed is beautiful. Mount Merapi is clearly visible. It takes about 1 hour.

Sabana I

From Sabana I to Sabana II, it takes 30 minutes. Then we continue to sabana II to the peak. It is about 120 minutes.

Sabana II

Kenteng Songo Peak, which is the highest peak on this mountain, witnessed how the sun rises Merbabu seen even if only for a moment. Mount Merapi with a sea of fog will be seen. This charm cannot be expressed in words. Only admiration can be revealed. However, its beauty will always be remembered in the heart and cannot be written in words.
